Abstract
Growing demand for low-carbon energy has increased interest in wave energy, given its high energy density and predictability. National-scale assessments of this resource within Algeria's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) remain limited despite its ~2148 km coastline.
This study evaluates the wave energy resource along the Algerian littoral using multi-year wave data and the MIKE 21 SW model, combined with GIS-based spatial analysis to map resource distribution and delineate favourable zones. These zones were further assessed using the CorPower Ocean C4 converter to estimate Annual Energy Production (AEP) and identify priority sites.
The results provide suitability maps and a scientific basis for future site selection, supporting Algeria's renewable energy diversification objectives.
